Interview with Kate O'Brien, Dublin Based Yoga Teacher and Wellness Expert

Kate O'Brien is a Dublin based yoga teacher, beauty and wellness expert, and author of eight books ranging from the spas of Asia to how to glow your way through middle age. She is also a YogaClicks Ambassador. In this interview with author and YogaClicks Founder Lucy Edge, she shares what motivated her to become a yoga teacher, what songs she sings in the car, and why she'd like to be an elephant.

Q: What motivated you to become a yoga teacher?

A:

Have been practising yoga for over 20 years, started while living in Asia in about 1998 – the longer I practised the deeper I got into it….as it just works for me. The natural next stage was to become a teacher – so I could learn even more and help my own practice. I had not intended teaching but have started to do a few classes. Yoga was and continues to be one of the most important parts of my life – almost daily practice – and I know I will never tire of it.....especially as every time I am on my mat – I learn something new and feel the benefits of that precious time.

Q: What projects are you currently working on?

A: I continue to write lifestyle articles for magazines around the world, my first podcast series – Wild & Wise -  is about to launch and my next book is in the pipeline….more to come on this soon, I hope!

Q: What songs do you sing when you’re in the car alone?

A: Don’t Go – Hothouse Flowers, Romeo & Juliet – Dire Straits and Don Henley…Boys of Summer – can't decide!?

Q: What’s your favourite film and why?

A: Torn between Out of Africa and Cinema Paradiso – adore everything about both of these movies – from cinematography to music and acting – always carry me away…

Q: What is your favourite thing about YogaClicks?

A: Love everything on the site but if I had to choose it’s the malas! The Heaven & Earth mala (pictured) is one of my favourites. I had it custom made as I like them a bit longer. Think my dog likes it too :) Click the pic to shop the mala.

Q: If you could be any animal, which would you be and why?

A: Elephant as I adore them and many of them are treated so badly that I would lead the herd to freedom!
