What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is suitable for people of all fitness levels – beginners and advanced yogis alike. As is the case with all types of yoga, Yin Yoga also has a range of health benefits. A yoga class of this type calms and balances the mind and body, reduces stress and anxiety, improves flexibility and even improves joint mobility.

Created by Paulie Zinc, Yin Yoga aims to restore our innate ability to move with fluidity, power and grace. This type of yoga uses long, passive holds to exercise all soft tissues, clear energetic blockages and promote circulation. The longer holds, and the emphasis on letting go in these yoga classes, encourages profound and meditative exploration. Yin Yoga improves flexibility at any age, but perhaps especially into old age, when function declines.

Advanced Yin yoga is based upon Daoist energy alchemy and uses animal postures and primal movement exercises to develop the invigorating five transforming elements of Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire that are contained in the universal life force. The rhythm of yin and yang is harmonized and enhanced with powerful flowing sequences that temper the bones and build core strength and balance.
