What is Sivananda Yoga? 

 

 

 

 

 

The goal of Sivananda Yoga is to promote physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. This type of yoga is suitable for people of all fitness levels, as it prescribes working slowly and methodically towards mastering the yoga poses.

 


Created by Swami Sivananda and systematised by Swami Vishnudevananda, Sivananda Yoga is a whole-life approach based on five principles: yoga poses to increase circulation and flexibility; breathing exercises to release energy into the body; full relaxation of the body and mind; a balanced, vegetarian diet, positive thinking and meditation. Sivananda Yoga classes involve a mixture of breathing exercises and poses, centring around 12 yoga poses. Teachers will adjust the difficulty of these poses according to the ability of the class.
